Bugout Truck Tent

Hey what’s up, YouTube? Shane here again, with another episode on and this weekend we’re out at , that’s where we’re doing and shooting the webcast from. And I’ve got a couple of product reviews that we’re gonna do this weekend and one of the products I’m gonna talk to you right now is the . And this is a product that we’ve just got, this will be the first time we’re using this. And you’ve seen a lot of different… you’ve seen a lot of different systems on different web episodes, where people take PVC and they fashion it to a frame. They put a tarp over it and then that’s fine and dandy. But this is a more of a, kind of a semi-permanent setup that you can use for short-term, long-term.
Some of the benefits of this system, and I’ll talk about when we’ll show the inside, is a clip-on rainfly. I’m really happy with the construction of it. It’s made out of really, really good and durable parachute material, it has a heavy lined floor and it’s simple to put up. The whole thing takes about 45 minutes to erect it. I really like the quality. I got some background noise coming in, so I’ll try to speak up. It’s kinda busy out here this weekend.
One of the benefits of this is, like I always talk about is getting up off the ground. So, what you’re gonna do, this is you gonna take you off the ground away from the… Away from the elements, away from the rain, away from the wildlife, away from the bugs. So, we’re gonna move to the back now and we’ll show the inside, and we’ll talk a little bit about the product.
Now, before we show the inside of the tent, I wanna talk to you a little bit about something, about what we do. Nothing is ever good enough for us – we have to take the next step and we always have to add on and make things different. So, the system you see on the back… the back of the truck, is the system that we come up with and I wanna talk about this and how much money it cost to set something like this up.
So, truck tents. Tents, these systems are really good, sometimes you need a little extra something. So this is our privacy room, changing room, shower, bathroom. We’ll go inside and I’ll show you how we’ve set this up. So, the setup on this is a series of poles, tent poles that we’ve taken out of some old tents we don’t use anymore. Two , some , some . And we’ve set up a privacy room because the only thing, the downfall of this tent is that there’s no room on the inside to really… to really do a lot. There’s a small gear storage area and I’ll talk about the gearbox we’ve put on the back briefly.
So, let’s go on in and let’s take a look, show you what we’ve got setup. So here’s our inside setup and like I said you know, it’s, it’s a standard tent frame that we’ve put up, tied down with paracord and our tent stakes. We have a Ozark trail, portable, portable toilet here and this is the style with the bio bags. These systems are about 30 bucks. Really, really, really, really great to have with you, if you don’t like handling your business in the woods. Nobody said survival had to be nasty, okay. So, neat system.
This is a fabricated shower stand that we’ve, that we made at our shop. This gets me up off the ground and then we have a that will hang up above this, it’s currently heating up right now. So, this just gives us a little… a little extra something, a little privacy room, changing room. I can change my clothes back here. I can do whatever I’ve gotta do before bedtime. And we have a kind of, you can’t have a shower without a shower curtain.
We’ve taken a standardized , made some structural modifications on it to set one of our Kobalt boxes. It’s got a foot stand here. I’ve got two on each side. I always talk about bringing your own water, bringing your own drinking water, bringing your own utility water. And then of course you know, we’ve got our standard loadout material in a biker bar box. This gives my box up off the ground, it gets it close to my vehicle. And I can secure it and keep the critters and the creepy crawlies out.
Another thing about the that we really like is the small canopy that comes off the back. I’m really happy with the construction on this. We’ll go ahead and open the mosquito net up. We’ve got… trying out one of the air beds, . This is a queen size mattress. What’s cool about this is it has the cutouts on the fender wells, so this takes up the whole… the whole bed of my truck. So we all know I don’t like sleeping on the ground, unless I absolutely have to. So, I’ll really be roughing it tonight with my 250 count, thread count Mossy Oak sheet.
You’ve got a small gear area in the back that I can put my personal items close, whatever. Keep something you know, a bag or a mat or, something to keep the inside from getting dirty. I’ve got my light, I’ve got my exhaust fan that I always run with… The cool thing about this tent is even with the rainfly on, it’s got all these different vent options that you can open up. Very comfortable. With the bed out of it, I’m 6 foot tall and I can almost completely stand up in the back of this unit. So, what we’re looking at with this is, if I’ve got a truck, I have the ability to have a system that I can use almost anywhere. This is a mobile system. This is a really, really, really cool alternative to having… pulling a trailer behind you, having a pop-up camper, having a ground tent.
So, if you want to get into somewhere, setup and be able to break down and rollout pretty fast, this is a cool system I have. So we’re excited to be demoing one of these and we’ll be doing a later review of how things go with it as far as durability and things like that. But so far I’m really happy with this setup. And like I said, our setup of the tarp and the privacy room – you don’t have to go out and buy everything commercially. You can buy a system and add on to it. It’s however you want to make it your own.
So, we’ll be coming back and giving you another review on durability and how we feel about it. And there’s gonna be a lot of other… a lot of their systems like this, Napier also has some rooftop systems for SUVs, jeeps. We’re going to be demoing those, a couple of those as well later on. So, Napier truck tent – I ran on, totaled everything about 30 bucks for our little privacy shelter on the back, modifications on our cargo carrier.
So, you can do anything you want to do, it’s however your comfort zone is, whether you’re bugging out, whether you’re camping, whether it’s short-term survival, whatever. No one said that you have to be uncomfortable and without certain gear and equipment in a situation. This would be a great setup in a storm sense. If I’ve got to get out of the area and I need something to setup. So, if you’ve got a truck, you’ve got a camper. So, we’ll be coming back later on after we use this a few times and I’ll be doing a second review on it and then telling you the review on durability and how it wears. Hopefully and in storms, we’ll get some weather and how the rainfly thing works.
