Hey, all youse guys who say you 'gladly' pay your taxes: Are you going to tell me that if the government said you (just you) no longer had to pay taxes because (invent some reason), you would just go on and voluntarily calculate what you would owe if the free pass hadn't materialized and send it in?

Oh, I don't doubt there would be some small percentage of people who would do just that. But not many.

For the rest of you, I would like to point out that you do not, in fact, 'gladly' pay your taxes. You pay them because you fear the people who demand that you pay them. You say you gladly pay because you don't want to admit to anyone (not even yourself, perhaps) that you are submitting to being bullied.

Also, in the back of your mind, you think that if no one was being forced to pay, then certainly no one would pay, and society would perish and so you are glad someone is forcing you and everyone else to pay, because without that threat, no one would, resulting in chaos.

So it seems the only way you can imagine that human society can survive is at gunpoint.

Sorry, but to be thankful that someone is holding a gun to your head is just plain messed up.

I know, I know: "Somalia." If that is the main response that comes to you, then that's just another level of messed up. But don't feel bad, you have lots and lots of company, and that's what matters most. Only crazies go against the status quo, don't you know.

There is no need to think about things, right? If most people think one way, and that's the way your parents brung ya up and that's what they learned ya in the skool, then it must be right.

And when you go with the flow, you get all those nice, warm, fuzzy feelings of acceptance. You don't want people thinking you're weird, do you? Of course not.
